The Long Island Outdoor Living Demand Calendar: When Your Neighbors Shop for Patios, Pools & Outdoor Kitchens (2026 Data)
How far in advance do Long Islanders actually plan their backyards? We pulled twelve months of Google search demand across Nassau and Suffolk counties — every major patio, pool, and outdoor kitchen search — to build a demand calendar for the Island's outdoor living season. The numbers are monthly Google searches across both counties, July 2025 through June 2026.

The headline numbers
- Pool installation searches peak in July at 7,640/month — more than 5× the November low of 1,330. The peak lands in swim season, which is precisely the problem: a pool searched in July is a pool for next summer.
- Patio and hardscape demand peaks in May at 5,260/month, 6× the December low — and it has a second, quieter build window in September (4,420) that most homeowners miss.
- Outdoor kitchen searches nearly triple in a single month — from 470 in February to 1,310 in March — and hold above 1,300 through June.
- Semi-inground pool searches swing 18×: from 140 in December to 2,600 at the July peak. No other backyard product on Long Island is this seasonal.
Pool installation: the January window nobody uses
Look at January: 2,620 searches — up 80% from December, while it's snowing. Those are the planners, and they're the ones swimming by July, because design, permitting, and scheduling all happen before the spring rush. The July searchers — the biggest single group of the year — are mostly shopping for a pool they won't swim in until the following season.
The semi-inground curve is even sharper. Searches for semi-inground pools — Long Island's high-water-table favorite — hit 2,600 in July against 140 in December. By June (1,890) the season's install calendar is largely spoken for.
Patios and hardscape: two seasons, not one
Demand more than triples between February (920) and March (3,290), then climbs to the May peak. But note September: 4,420 searches — the fall build season is real, the weather is ideal for base work, and it's the least crowded quality window of the year. A patio built in October is ready for the first warm weekend of spring.
Outdoor kitchens: March flips the switch
Outdoor kitchen demand nearly triples from February to March and peaks in April at 1,600 — earlier than pools, earlier than patios. Kitchen projects involve gas, electric, masonry, and appliance lead times, and April shoppers seem to know it.
What the calendar means in practice
Every curve in this data points the same direction: Long Island shops for its backyard exactly when everyone else does — and the homeowners who move one season early get the summer everyone else is still planning. Design in fall or winter, build early, and the project is finished before the May crowd picks up the phone.
Methodology: monthly Google search volumes for Nassau County and Suffolk County, NY, July 2025–June 2026, aggregated by project category from 40+ tracked search terms (e.g., "pool installation," "pool companies," "semi inground pool," "paver patio," "patio installation," "hardscaping," "outdoor kitchen"). Figures are combined two-county totals rounded as reported by Google.
Frequently Asked Questions
- When is the best time to book a pool installation on Long Island?

- When do most Long Islanders shop for paver patios?
- May is the peak at 5,260 monthly searches across Nassau and Suffolk — which is why spring callers wait longest for a crew. September's second window (4,420 searches) offers ideal building weather and shorter queues.
